"Fe, fi, fo, fum, I smell the blood of an Englishman!"
- The giant, Jack and the Beanstalk

Many plants have a vining habit, producing long, twining stems that rely on outside structures to support them. Grapes are among the most recognizable. Around the world, grapevines are cultivated on farms called vineyards, often to produce wine. Beans, peas, potatoes, squash, cucumbers, melons, and other food plants also produce vines that must be supported on a trellis or frame. Wild vines include the itch-inducing poison ivy. These wild vines use trees, plants, or other structures for support.

Perhaps the most vivid popular culture reference to the vine is that of Jack and the Beanstalk, in which magic beans produce a giant vine that reaches up to a giant's home in the clouds. Grapevines are a popular motif in home decor and often signify wine culture or the country of Italy, which is known for its vineyards. The Jonas Brothers, a musical group, produced an album called Lines, Vines, and Trying Times, in which many of the songs use vines as metaphors.

Gardens have been a part of human life from time immemorial, and victory gardens were popular during World War I and World War II. In modern times, the victory garden has been transformed into the "quarantine garden," as many people have taken up the hobby of gardening during times of self-isolation and social distancing. The quarantine garden also serves another purpose. It reassures the gardener that he or she will have a ready supply of food during times of uncertainty.

You can "plant" your own cartoon quarantine garden with the help of this easy, step-by-step cartoon plant drawing tutorial.
